Polar Pain

The polar vortex blew in 17 PAX this morning to Broken Wheel where our theme was simply to keep warm and not die of hypothermia. It would have been a very Oregon Trail way to go, but, not on my watch!!

There was a Preparty, but: NumbTucks yelled something grumpy and unintelligible when I asked him what they were doing, so I let it be. To a bystander it looked like sprints between light poles with speed bumps of shivering.

PAX: Nimbus1500, CheezWhiz, Netflix, NumbTucks, Show Me, Creeper, Tebow, MicDrop, Stats, Gaylord Focker, Snowball, Barney Fievel, Steinbrenner (F3 Memphis), Sterno, Kermit, Inspector Gadget, and RagDoll (QiC).

Warm-up:

  • 40 Side Straddle Hops
  • 10 LBAC’s forwards and backwards in cadence.
  • Stretch out the legs with some Toe Touches, Willie Mays Hayes and Good Mornings, and away we go!

Thang 1: Urban Typewriter

We’ve done the Typewriter a few times before on the glorious Forge football field, but we’re remanded to a parking lot this morning with only parking space stripes to guide us. So we’ll call this the Urban Typewriter.

  • Starting at the edge of the parking lot the PAX perform 10 Ranger Merkins (that’s a Merkin with your arms pulled back toward the bottom of your ribcage)
  • Then duck walk approx 40 yards towards the other end of the parking lot
  • Move forward approx 5 yards and perform 10 Burpees
  • Bear crawl back across the parking lot 40 yards
  • Repeat 10 Ranger Merkins and continue to serpentine your way through the lot, moving ahead 5ish yards each time you cross the lot.

Now, you kids that are over 35 should know what a typewriter is: that old writing machine where you press a key, and a hammer raises to strike an ink ribbon to impress a letter on a sheet of paper. Keys get pressed, the carriage moves right to left, until you get to a new line and it all starts over again.

Well, our typewriter looked more like one of those janky old rusty bits someone dug out of a dumpster behind Goodwill where all the keys are locked up, and you press one key and 5 letters all try to strike the ink ribbon at once, and it ends as a whole gobbed up inky mess that jacks up your paper.

I admit, performing the Urban Typewriter with little more than faint parking lot stripes to guide you is a challenging task, and as Q, I take responsibility for any unclear directions. The function was there – we’ll need to keep working on form.

At any rate, the PAX were breathing hard at the end of 10 passes across the parking lot.

Mosey 1: Catch Me If You Can

We line up for an Indian Run, 1.25 times around the the track. Last PAX in line drops to do 3 Yurpees (check the Exicon, courtesy of F3 Nolensville), then sprints to the front of the line, tagging the last person in line on his way past who then drops to do 3 Yurpees.

Thang 2: Wall Work

We pull off at the Snack Shack to do a Nimbus1500 favorite thing – Wall Walk-Ups. After pairing off…

  • Partner 1 does 5 Inverted Box Jumps (start at the top, jump down), while
  • Partner 2 does as many Wall Walk-Ups as possible (begin in high plank position, then walk your feet backwards up the brick wall of the Snack Shack, then down again).

Rinse and repeat this, increasing the number of Inverted Box Jumps by 5 each set – 5, 10, 15, 20 – until Q calls time or Barney Fievel breaks your phone.

Mosey 2: Catch Me If You Can (Redux)

Those who had already done Yurpees get to start at the front of the line while we continue our Indian Run. We complete another .75 times around the track and then stop off at the picnic shelter.

Thang 3: Arm To Table

We number off in groups of 4, each standing at the corner of a wooden picnic table bench. We do three sets of:

  • 5 Derkins
  • 5 Overhead Presses of the picnic table

I know there was some jealousy for those who didn’t get to do Yurpees on our Indian Run, so after circling up we all do 3 Yurpees together for good measure.

Nameorama / COT

I was impressed to have 17 PAX on what I think has been one of our coldest mornings of the winter so far… even while missing a couple regulars on IR. Great job men!

Creeper gave us a 9th Man overview of his life which included the fact that he is an Eagle Scout, how he started dating his wife when she was but a young intern at a local church (he assures us she was 18 and not his intern), and how he’s a professional wrestling super-fan. Who knew! I honestly don’t think we could handle any more info from Creeper than we got today – mind blown.

Continued prayers for Soccer Mom and fam. Keeping 3rd Degree and his fam in prayer as they prepare for 2.0. And healing for all our injured PAX.

Really enjoyed seeing you all and leading you this morning. Until next time, peace!

Wet N’ Wild

Coming off the IR list for a fun wet n’ wild Saturday at the Forge, nice 43-degree weather, and did I say wet already. Just when I though the morning could not get any better, who rolls in on a scooter? The one and only AunteBea!! (good to have you back!) Now we can get rolling

PAX: NumbTucks (QIC), Creeper, Polar Express, Cheez Whiz, Ragdoll, Snow Ball, Typo +, Tebow, Sterno, Nimbus 1500, Little Miss Piggy, Netflix, AuntBea, Stats.

Today we embarked on a very non-creative pain inducing routine known as the Spartan…

Spartan
PAX line up and sprint 100 yrds (about maybe 75), do 10 merkins at the finish and walk back to the start altogether; alternate between Mrkins, Burpees, and WW1s. Q starts each sprint race with a verbal call. Continue until you have done 30 x100 yrd sprints and 10×15 = 150 Merks / 10X10 = 100 Burpess/ 5×10 WW1 = 50. With the rain, everyone loved an hour of sprints and suck…
Remember to keep praying for Soccer Mom in Uganda.

Mosey to another Shelter to finish second round of Aiken Legs. Q’s poor time management left 8 minutes on the clock and Q really doesn’t like Mary so what better way to finish the workout than with another round of Burpee Apocalypse.

Great work today Gentlemen!

Duck Hunt

16 Sportsman came out for a guided tour of the marshes of Nolensville this morning guided by yours truly….

Conditions: It ain’t Teal season boys….. So forget the September temps. The mallards are flying for this late season hunt! 30 degrees with about 1-2 mph NW wind

Pax: 3rd Degree, Sterno, Barney Fievel, FNG – Snow Ball, Kermit, Inspector Gadget, Stats, Creeper, TV Guide, Ragdoll, Tebow, Netflix, Altidore, Micdrop, Nimbus, Show Me (Q) aka lead guide.

Pre-Party : Something ridiculous, hard, and grueling…(Which is why Q skipped so he could get his shotgun ready)

Warm Up:

18 was a special number today

18 – Side Straddle Hops

18 – Squats

18 – Merkins

18 – Forward Arm Circles (Q’s cadence struggled but it was because he wanted his Quack cadence to be stellar for the rest of the hunt)

18 – Backward Arm Circles

Mosey to the Blind where we will put in!

Thing 1 – The DUCK Blind Mill Creek (River) Bridge

#1 – Decoy Set up

Mill Creek Bridge was our hunting blind this morning. The mallards love the river bottoms and we were there to make sure we smoked em when they committed to our blind. But first we had to get our decoys across the river…. You can’t expect to get on em if your mojo ain’t in proper flying position… Q made the sportsman duck walk the bridge to get their decoys out. But since sun was coming up and we needed to be timely about a 5 burpee penalty/reward was issued for any hunter who gave in early.

#2 – Harvest Retrieval (don’t tell the Mrs.’s)

Any duck hunter worth his salt doesn’t leave his kill in the river and since we didn’t have a dog with us we were our own dogs. Pax were issued partners and partnered bear crawl back across the bridge as far as they could make it with their partner pax strapped to their waist. Once pax were exhausted and ducks started to sink pax’s switched up and completed the bear crawl back to the boating ramp.

Mosey  to Mill Creek Brewery Parking lot

Thing 2: The Clean Up

Time to clean our kill…

18 – Calf Rises

Duck walk the parking lot to the other side

6 – Iron Mikes in honor of Michael Waddell the great Realtree host

Rinse and repeat 2 additional times…. Why you wonder? The daily bag limit is 6 but the possession limit is 3 times the bag limit BABY so lets go!

Mosey to the pain ground

Thing 3: 6 pack

We ate a lot of Duck so we want to work off the flab even though this routine has nothing to do with our core.

1 Pull up and 5 Merkins repeat with 2 pull ups and 4 merkins and so on each time to equal 6. Once the sportsman hit 5 pull ups and 1 merkin the lead guide ShowMe showed no mercy and told them to rinse and repeat to wash off all that filthy duck meat from their teeth…..

6MOM

18 – Freddy Mercury

18 – WWI

Q had struggled on his calling cadence giving too many quacks in the blind so graciously 3rd degree and Tebow stepped up to the shooting platform and unloaded one final good load of steel shot on em…

18 – American Hammers (courtesy of 3rd degree)

18 – Crunchy Frogs (Thanks to Tebow because he knew we needed sushi after all that wild game)

Circle of Trust

Q encouraged the sportsman with the importance of spending quality time with their 2.0;s and how this is so vital. Outdoors is simply one way to do that. Be intentional with our time, put the phone away and invest in those who need us the most.

9th Man – Stats allowed us to peak in a little bit more to his world and shared about hometown, love for running, F3, and his bride.

Announcements

The guillotine I mean gauntlet (sorry Sterno) is coming soon….

Welcome Dave Ramsey’s Snowball to the group.

2nd F this Thursday lunch meet up not sure where yet?? Tebow has mentioned potentially Brothers  Burgers on Slack…

That’s all for now men. Thanks for getting on the waders and diving in the water with me this morning and making some memories. Keep your guns loaded and your calling reeds cleaned out for our next hunt…. Sometimes them coots come in hot!

75 yard dash then 75 mountain climbers, run back to start point to do one 4×4, then plank/wait for six;

*Moseyed to LMP’s truck to pick up Coupons.   Circles up for the next round of fun.

Blocktanamo

PAX, in a circle, hold small yard blocks straight out in front of them while one PAX sets down his block to run inside the circle pressing down on the others blocks. The next PAX sets his block down as soon as the guy next to him is on the move. Ends when the final PAX completes his lap. Did two clockwise and two counterclockwise.  Numbtucks thought he’d be funny and not start when we was supposed to.  On our last one, Stats stood in front him smiling…that’s what you get!

Annoucements

Count-o-rama

Name-o-rama

Q finished by reading Romans 5:3-4:

We rejoice in our sufferings knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.

Post-Party: Dips, Dirkins, Irkins, Box Jumps – 15 of each.  Stats, Altidore, NumbTucks, Little Miss Piggy, and Ragdoll.

Our suffering in a F3 beatdown in the gloom helps build our endurance, that endurance produces more character in us, and our improved character produces hope in our lives.  Q is very encouraged in his life (esp during the winter) by the amazing group of guys.

*Pray for Soccer Mom and his family while they adjust in Uganda.

*Third Thursday Lunch #2ndF event is this week.  Typo+ will send out location on Wednesday.

Thank you for letting me lead this morning and grow better with each passing burpee!

Nimbus’ Favorite Thangs

7 PAX out this morning in the low 20s for Nimbus’ list of Favorite Thangs!

PAX: Stats, Altidore, Tebow, Ragdoll, Sterno, Creeper & Nimbus1500

Warm-Up:

  • SSH x25
  • Tempo Squats x20
  • Big Arm Circles OYO (definitely needed before the sequence below)
  • Toy Soliders x10ish each leg OYO

The List

Thang Combo #1

Quick Mosey to the swing set for our partner swap Burpups (Prairie Grass Pullups for those of you who took the journey on the Oregon Trail pt. 2) and HipDips.  With 5 sets of 5, each PAX completed 25 Burpups and as many HipDips they could squeeze in while their partner was on the pull up bar.

Thang Combo #2

Mosey to the Snack Shack for some wall work.  In pairs, one PAX would run to the trees and back while the other PAX would do the wall exercise until the runner returned.  We did three rounds, 1st Wall Walkups, 2nd Balls to the Wall (lotta balls in my workouts lately?), 3rd Donkey Kicks.

Thang #3

Indian run from the snack shack to the bridge, where we did one lap of partner carries.  Each PAX rotated in as needed to complete the lap.

Thang #4

Since we were there and we hadn’t had enough shoulders yet, we Crawl Bear’d the bridge and Bear Crawled back.

Mosey back to launch

Mary:

Quick mary with 3 mins remaining, but we got in some new flavors of planks I’ve been experimenting with…from my wife’s Barre classes:).  They have dumb names at Barre, so I’ll call the first one, “The Hillbilly Plank”.  We completed 20ish of those and then knocked out 10 “Push Planks” (name is in review).

Like most of my Qs, I had a lot more favorites to share, but didn’t have enough time.  A sequel is likely…

We Must Climb, We Must Climb!! @ BrokenWheel

As Gollum said, “We must climb, we must climb.” We took his advice and took it to heart with some hill work, along with some fun speed bumps along the way. Sorry guys we ran a LOT this morning.

PAX: Sterno, 3rd Degree, Nimbus 1500, Creeper, Stats, Altidore, Tap Out, Aby, Barney Fievel, Show Me, Mic Drop, Tebow, Staples, Netflix, NumbTucks (QIC)

We did 10 burpees and then took off on a 1-mile jog to Countryside (the dreaded hill). This hill was introduced on my first half marathon I trained for, I HATED THIS HILL.

Along the way:
Speed bump 1: 50 Dips on benches
Speed bump 2: 50 Merkins
Speed bump 3: 50 American Hammers

THE HILL:
nine total driveways up the hill. At each driveway, each PAX performs burpees and WW1s. Both must add up to 10. Begin with nine burpees and one WW1. Decrease burpees and increase WW1s until you end up at the top with one burpee and nine WW1s

The way back:
Speed bump 1: Flutterkicks
We finally reached THE BRIDGE for one bear crawl across as we waited for others to show up. Staples hurt his ankle, some walked with him, while the others did some MARY.

Workout Notes:
– Warpath is this Saturday 5am at the Concord YMCA (feel free to show up for part or whole) Contact Third Degree for more details
– Ironclad sign up has past, but reach out to Princess Aurora if you want to sign up. He will have mercy
– Nimbus needs to stop revealing what he ate the night before by letting the gas flow freely while running in the front. (The smell is still haunting me)
– Show Me was on point with much yelling this morning. I heard a lot about Dabo Swinney.
– Hit up Tebow with some cash for coffee (venmo: @Nathan-Wright-34)

Circle of Life @ TheForge…Soccer Mom’s Parting Q

15 pax strong: Netflix, Stats, Staples, Typo Positive, Altidore, MuRSA, Soccer Mom (QiC), NumbTucks, Nimbus1500, Sterno, Tebow, Creeper, Barney Fievel, LittleMissPiggy, ShowMe

Pre party led by mr. Post party Stats. Attended was staples, altidore, typo, and late arrivals were creeper and soccer mom.

We start with a mosey around the parking lot and then gave a disclaimer followed by:
SSH
Baby arm circles
Merkins
Squats
Tebow stretch

The thang:
I explained to the PAX that we would be going on a safari but first I had to get them in the right mindset.

First was Dora’s the explorer:
In groups of two we did 100 merkins, 200 shoulder exercises with coupons and 300 American hammers. One partner ran while the other did the workout.

Next we moseyed to the hill and did mountain climber merkins up the hill followed by 5 burpees. Then we sprinted up the hill followed by 5 knee tucks. Then we did Bernie Sanders up the hill with 5 knee tucks. Lastly Uganda is 9 hrs ahead so we did 9 clock merkins at 12,3,6,9.

Now we were ready for the safari.

Our safari headed towards the playground where we saw a bunch of monkeys. So we jumped on the bars at the swingset and did toe touches to the bar. Ten of them. Then we did howling monkeys for one minute

Next on our safari we ran into a herd of zebras so we did zebra kicks.

Next part of our safari we rant into the Nile river and a bunch of alligators. So in order to get across we had to do alligator merkins across the river.

Our safari ended with a sighting of gorillas so we had to celebrate with gorilla humpers. But lastly on our safari we came across a lion. Not just any lion but Simba. So we did the lion king exercise while listening to the circle of life song. What a way to end.

BullHorn: Thank you guys for your encouragement. It really means a lot. When we sweat, laugh and hurt together it forms bonds. You will be missed! God has led my family and I find solace in knowing I am where God wants me to be.
