Thang 1: Bataan Death March
Kicked off a Bataan Death March with a 5 burpee buy-in to start. Pax start their mosey from the Mill Creek bridge behind the HS football field, the last man completes 5 burpees before sprinting to the front of the line. Rinse. Repeat. Threw in a few speed bumps along the way: bump #1 – 10 merkins, bump #2 – 10 Iron Mikes (each side is a half). We death marched all the way to the middle school soccer fields.

Thang 2: Doracides

Dora + Suicides = Doracides. Yes, it’s as terrible as it sounds. A slightly modified version though, partners shared the following: 100 merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 squats. Mode of transportation was suicides, with a burpee at each cone x3. Immediately following the Doracides, we got in one more Bataan Death March lap around the entire soccer field. Ensuring everyone got their fair share of the suck.

Plank and wait for the six. Closed out the march with 5 more burpees for the entire group. Next up, 3rdDegree beat down.

Thang 3: Bearcrawl Suicides
More partner work. This time bearcrawl suicides. Partner 1 hangs back to stretch out whatever they want. Qs orders – insert mumble. Partner 2 begins with bearcrawl to the first cone, then crawlbear back. Repeat 3 times to complete suicides. Flapjack. This one sucked.

Thang 4: The Royal Burpee

  • Single Shot Jack – 5
  • Double Shot Jack – 5
  • Clap Burpee – 5
  • Mountain Climber Burpee – 5
  • 180 Burpee – 5
  • Insert Fog Of War – memory (and body) fading quickly, was there more?

To end the thangs, we performed some Banana Supermans.

CoT/Numbers/Names/FNG Naming

What we learned: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is key. It’s how we experience new things in life. It’s how we confront our fears. It’s how we become stronger leaders. After a few good words by 3rdDegree, we tightened up our CoT for prayer.

Bullhorn: (memory still foggy)… this Wed 6/12 – 2ndF opportunity for lunch in Nashville. Open to all, hoping to get the Nolensville PAX that work downtown together for some grub around noon. Watch for more details on slack.

Post Party: 3rdDegree led Numbtucks, Staples, CheezWhiz, Stats, & TV Guide to perform a 20 burpee ante for each FNG. 6 rounds of 10 burpees on the minute, totaling 60 burpees. Aye!

Beereteeria: Altidore came through with a special drop off delivery of some Good People IPA. Cerveza Salute in full effect to celebrate TV Guide’s first Q. Also big thanks to Numbtucks and CheezWhiz for providing the traditional Coffeeteria. A good day indeed.

Nolensville/Franklin Convergence #2 – The Forge – 6/1/19

We’ll have to run it by our attorneys to see if Franklin can take credit for all six FNGs for #Franklin150 – decision pending.

Mosey to football field for disclaimer & Warm up:
SSH, IW, Merks, Squats, 30s stretch oyo, Burpees
(the free stretch may have thrown some PAX – “what is this?” “what do I do?” – comfort zones abandoned already)

THANG 1 (Tebow QIC):

1.1) Side Shuffle Suicides: from goal line, shuffle 5-yd increments and back, ending at the 50 yd line – 1 burpee every direction change (fyi, this was a lot of shuffling; not mad about it)

1.2) Triplet under the bleachers:
10-1 reps of
steel beam pull ups, low plank MC, iron mikes
(merlot spotted shortly after)

1.3) With partner at midfield for Dora style work:
Partner 1 exercises (MC merkins x 50 / AH x 100 / jump squats x 150)
Partner 2 runs to the fence (approx. 80 yds) for 2 burpees over the fence (“Trump burpees” as suggested by PAX, has a nice ring) and back, switch (scale: burpee + 2 tuck jumps x2)
Then, one final trip to the fence all together

THANG 2 (Gig ‘Em QIC):

After jumping many fences Tebow passed the baton to Gig’em. Pax were grateful.

2nd warmup: Mosey around track. Bearcrawl bleacher section. Rinse and repeat.

2.1) Partner up. One partner planks for 60 seconds. Other partner amraps burpee side jumps over planking Partner. Switch. Rinse and repeat. This was rough. Pax pressed through.
2.2) Mosey around track. Crabwalk bleacher section (approx 80 yards). Karaoke across field to underneath bleachers.
2.3) Partner up: Pull-up holds for 20 seconds. Other partner does 7 hand release Merkins. Switch. 5 sets each. 10 HRM on set five. Last pull-up hold is to failure. Excellent effort by all. Mosey to field.
2.4) Stay with partner: in style of Dora, one partner does big boy sit-ups while the other partner canary hops for 20 yards. Does five burps. Crawl bears back to goal line. Switch. Repeat 3 times. Mosey to other side of track.
2.5) 200 yard sprint. Shoota references track experience and suggests we stagger lanes to make fair. Suggestion box was closed. Maybe next time. To the sled.
2.6) 5 pax at a time took turns & unleashed fury on the Nolensville Knights blocking sled.
Intensity was off the charts. Great seeing men getting after it. Nice finisher.

Grateful for the opportunity to lead you men. What a great AO. See you in September boys. Keep stretching because there is no growth in the comfort zone.

MEDALS OF HONOR — Acknowledging our Heroes 

Today, we started off the Memorial Day weekend with a tribute to all the great heroes serving this wonderful country.  YHC instructed PAX to find a battle partner who they will stay with throughout.

PAX in attendance: Nimbus 1500 (pre-vac after PP), 3rd deg,  Barney Fievel, Old Hick, Staples, Bear Gryllis, Swinger, Toad, Mursa, TV Guide, Mic Drop, Creeper, Wolverine, Farva (FNG), Hush puppy, Numbtucks, Ragdoll, Playboy, Cheezwhiz, Tebow, Altidore, Stats, Color Run (FNG), Chewy (FNG), and (Q) Little Miss Piggy — YES! that’s an all time high for Nolensville –25 PAX!

Conditions — wonderful

Pre-Party: Stats pulled a fast one on  preparty HIMs last week, but held himself accountable this week and showed up at 5:15 to lead it:  Multiple 50 yd sprints with 10 reps of exercises the PAX picked from the workout card deck.

Warm-up/Disclaimer/BattlePlan:  

Pick up the big Coupons from Staples’ truck.  1 per pair. head to the road.

Mosey Thang: (put those together b/c QiC really intended this to be more than just moseying
PAX 1-John Cusak with coupon, PAX 2 – duck walk (stay together) x approx 100 yds.  ;   Speedbump for 25 monkey humpers — Now switch roles and carry on another 100 yds.  Took two rounds of this to make it to the soccer field.

Thang 2: The man, not-so-much a myth, but clearly a legend …

CHARLES BRONSON!

PAX  may remember from doing this workout in the fall, but what wasn’t revealed at that time is that Charles Bronson was a veteran.  Enlisted in 1943 for WWII and served as an air gunner (which is a dangerous position to be in)-served in Guam fightin them Japs and did 25 missions. So in his honor, we did:

25 reps each of Iron Mikes, Squat jumps, Side Lunges (each side), and Squats
In between each exercise, PAX sprinted 100 yds then dropped and army crawled 15 more yards, mosey back to the start.  Stay with partner.

Thang 3:   Soldier gotta build each other up, then be there help each other out as well when things get tough.

Resist and Assist

PAX are accustomed to the endurance factor of high rep counts and burning those slow twitch fibers, but time to build some fast twitch with anaerobic blast to failure:
PAX 1 – resist PAX 2 doing 10 merkins to point of failure on 10th rep, then keep going without rest x 10 more with PAX 2 assisting; then switch

Rinse and repeat with Derkins, and Irkins using the coupons.

Thang 4:   We have honored many of the fallen brothers in arms over the past couple weeks, who have given their lives for us and our country.  So today, YHC also wanted to honor those who took action is the same manner, being willing to almost certainly lose their life to save others , and yet miraculously lived.  While in San Antonio this week, YHC was at the Center For The Intrepid, where military personnel are rehabilitated from even the worst of trauma injury. A plaque of one the guys was on the wall, Corporal Kyle Carpenter. This soldier is the youngest ever to receive the Presidential Medal of Honor for actions he took while in Afghanistan.  While on a roof top security detail, Taliban decided to attack in mid-day. Story is that as grenades began falling onto the roof top, Cpl Carpenter went running from one to the next throwing them back off the roof until one finally went off as it left his hand.   He had massive trauma to his face and right arm, losing the eye and most of his hand, but saved several lives.   So in his honor, PAX performed:

Grenade Suicides

Markers placed each 10 yds for total of 50 yds.  (Markers were t-shirts: Barney and Old Hickory had already decided shirts were for sissies so we used theirs, but YHC could hardly solicit another from anyone–Wolverine finally obliged.)

PAX (staying with partner) performed 5 burpees (getting and tossing back the grenade) at the baseline, then ran to next marker for another 5 burpees.  Return to baseline and repeat but advancing then to the next farther marker in “suicide” exercise fashion.   Audible–QiC decreased to 3 burpees after 20 yd marker due to time.

YHC noted after the exercise another Medal of Honor recipient who recently passed away, he was the oldest Medal of Honor recipient that was still living…Robert Maxwell (98 years old).   He earned his medal in WWII when a grenade came into the bunker and he immediately grabbed a blanket and dove on top of the grenade.

Mosey:  Help each other carry the load — Partners work together trading off doing John Cusaks with the coupon as we make way back to the tennis court.

YHC addressed the group about some things to think about.  Like these soldiers we honored today as well as all the others out there right now working to protect us, be willing to live in service to others and to sacrifice for others, even unto death. Spiritually we are called to die unto self every day, and to love God and love others — we are to be willing to give of ourselves.
Read Psalm 116 — many great things in it, but notice the theme of commitment and the “I will” statements.    and ” The death of His faithful ones is valuable in the Lord’s sight.” v 15.

Pre-Party: YHC led Staples & eventually Old Hickory & Creeper got in on a Bearway to Heaven. YHC wanted to up the ante so led off and ended with 10 burpees. BearCrawl Slice of Bread…delicious.

Explained the concept for today: modified Murph. Great standard to measure fitness over time as it is done for best time. Lets Get it! I scared the PAX when I mentioned the routine and that it was done FOR TIME, but they thought I said 4 times….I could see why that would be scary!

Since the football field was locked (bummer!) we ran around the schools until 1 mile complete and ended at the elementary school pain ground for the rest of the Thang.

What we Learned:

  • Today’s workout is a CrossFit routine in honor of Lt. Mike Murphy (Commanding officer of Marcus Luttrell of Lone Survivor). He was a true HIM who led and served others at the cost of his own life.
  • Mufasa and Numbtucks (that I know of) got 90-100% of the reps done! Great job! This routine is a good marker to measure your progress every time you attempt it. Keep after it!
  • Awesome to have PollyWog join in on the fun today. He looks like Kermit’s older twin, but is named after a frog’s offspring…you figure that one out…
  • Swinger posted twice in a row and is staying after it. Keep it up!
  • I’m thankful for NumbTucks, Nimbus and Mickey pacing me and talking to me throughout the day. Sorry if I was sucking wind too hard to talk much. That’s what coffeeteria is for! 🙂 Seriously, thanks for pursuing me and pacing me and sharpening me. I need you guys…

Time to get ready for some gauntlet action next weekend. Nothing like some running and getting REAL close with your bros to get a man prepared!

A wonderful morning- no more gloom and a gentle breeze, 50 deg and warming

Preparty:  led by the one and only KERMIT!   a nice opening run to the Elementary school and back — about 2.5 miles

The Gauntlet touts a challenging 8 mile course, and seeing that it is next weekend…we decided the group needed a little cardio booster today — let’s get some more running in.

RUN: x 1 mile –everyone seemed to still be feeling pretty good, even the prepartiers

Thang 1:  GUNS-N-ROWSES !!!
LMP still isn’t sure why CheezWhiz insisted that we not run into the nearby neighborhood to do this thang .  Weird.   But it did seem that the  people driving by were all staring at this bunch of manly-men rising to the challenge and engorging their…backs and biceps!
Attitude adjustment x 10 burpees.
Partner UP–PAX1 stands straddling PAX2 laying on ground.  PAX1 does a low row using PAX2 as weight, then PAX2 does a hanging bicep curl on PAX1’s arms. Apocalypse style counting down from 10 to 5, then switched positions and repeat.   Man the mumble chatter was classic Nolensville on this one.

Run: x .75 mile  end at playground

Thang 2:    10x 10
grab a ledge and we have 10 reps each of Copenhagens, Merkins, and Squats on the minute x 10 minutes — to spice it up we threw a few rounds of different type of merkins.

Run:  x.91 miles  through neighborhood and back to vehicles   = total of 2.66 miles  + preparty .   I think I heard a final total including PP to be 5.3 miles.  Great work.

Mosey around school for all sorts of madness. Trump Burpees, Farmer Carries, Barishnakov squats, Underdoggies, Merkins, Burpees, UpsideDown Kingdom Runs…work was done, fun was had and attitudes were adjusted. 45 min. flies!

To the Field!!!
Partner up. Grab a tennis ball from Staples Vacation Bible School knapsack and get on the line. P1 throws the ball across the field and P2 goes and gets it with called MoT while P1 AMRAPs the exercise called. When P2 reaches the ball, mosey back to endzone to meet up with P1. Then flapjack. Rounds included: Skanks and Merkin, DuckWalk and WWIs, Sprint and American Hammers, lunge-walk and squats. Maybe there was another round too…Oh well. Should have been there.

RING OF FIRE!

Pax circle around the Knights logo at the 50 and shoulder to shoulder held highPlank. One by one, pax bear crawl around the circle back to their place. Almost resembled Duck, Duck, Goose. Lots of MC about playing with Staples’ balls. Priceless. Also…Wolverine and Nimbus resemble gorillas when crawling sideways…and FAST.

Great job Staples! Then the reigns were handed off to 3D and things went a little sideways…all spontaneous ideas. Some were keepers…some were…interesting.

Bleacher Work:

Pax split into 2 groups of 5, on each end of the bleachers (where no middle hand rail would rack you) and in line crawl-bear up the stairs to the top, then mosey back to the bottom and HP/Al Gore for the 6.

Then a race of sorts where Teammates RiverDance the bottom bleacher seat while one at a time pax race to the underside and perform 10 pull-ups, then rejoin their team. Proceed through team until all have performed pull-ups. Basically a tie.

Enough of that…let’s head to the track.

BURPEE BEAST MILE (modified)

10 Burpees, run 400m, 10 Burpees x 4 with some Ab work thrown in, including 30 LBCs, 15 WWIs. Nice way to get 80 Burpees and 1 mile in, then some!

Next!

We just had to take advantage of the Hurdles on the field, so:

Hurdle Curls x 30. Then some Boxing Sequences including:

  • 4 jabs, then side-step duck under hurdle, R&R x 10.
  • 4 UpperCuts then step over hurdle R&R x 10,
  • Jab-Hook then side step behind and around to opposite side. R&R x 10.
  • High kick-Low kick then alternate stance and R&R x 10.

Finally, Line up the 10 hurdles and bear crawl through the tunnel. 3 burpee penalty for any knocking into the hurdles. If Sterno hadn’t been trying, we would have done better. 6 penalties. Oh Well, everyone did 18 penalty burpees.

Then we lined back up and crawl-beared through the tunnel. Pax didn’t know the penalty this time, and we racked up a whopping 10 penalties. Pax lined up and had to sprint 10 yds per penalty, so we sprinted 100yds.

TIME CALLED.

Sterno 9th man. Married, 2 kids, all beautiful apparently. Owns a catering business. All around good dude.

Spoke to the Pax about the freedom that comes through a right relationship with the Sky-Q. It’s what this weekend’s holiday is all about. When Jesus yelled out “It is finished”, it wasn’t a cry of defeat, or relief that suffering was ending, but a victory cry declaring that his Mission was complete, complete forgiveness is possible and available now through His finished work! Now we can live in light of that. Enjoy the holiday!

  • RagDoll is planning F3Dads local event for May 19th and F3Franklin is hosting one April 28th (Next Sunday, 3pm, Pinkerton Park) as well. Sunday afternoons. Free event with kid-friendly 45 minute workout with snacks and drinks afterward.

Show me lap for Typo, then Indian Run down the greenway with a speed bump by the lake to stretch. F-Barre near completion, as Numbtucks saunters in to join the fun. Indian run continued to Nolensville Elementary with a speed bump along the way; Crawl Bear the small bridge. At the school, 25 APDs on the large balls, BC two light poles, (about 60 yds) CB to the balls (About 40 yds) Burpees to the 6. To the pain ground for AMRAP Pull up set followed by three Negatives and three GMs. IR back to the Forge with a 15 Merkin speed bump along the way. All in by 6:03 total 3.5 miles. Good work PREPartiers getting ready for the Gauntlet!!!

Thang 1

Hockey is a lot of skating up the ring switching to defense then skating backwards, with a lot of physicality along the way.

Suicide Burpee Apocalypse Pyramid.

Pax Mosey started on the goal line, mosey to the ten, perform one Burpee, politician back to the goal line, mosey to the twenty, perform two Burpees, continue this pattern until reaching the other goal line, ten Burpees then politician back, mosey to the opposite ten for nine Burpees and work their way down the Pyramid. Routine called after 30 minutes, a few PAX almost completed the circuit.

Thang 2

It takes 12 wins to win the Stanley Cup, wait nope it takes 16 wins to win the Stanley Cup (thanks 3D for keeping the Q honest.

PAX then executed a round of 16s, similar to 11s, with the two exercise areas of the goal line and 50 yard line. Exercises were HRCs (hand release clap merkins) and Warhammers (WWI with 2 American Hammers at the top) both of which were invented, to our knowledge, in Nolensville. Circuit called after 25 minutes. Pax finished with an “all you got left” 100 yard sprint.

45 Minute Pre-Party (Gauntlet Training)

Pre-Party: 10 HIM’s decided to start their Saturday by taking a Red Pill and accepted the challenge of a 45 minute pre-party.

Warm-Up: Mile Indian Run

Pre-Party Thang #1:

Thankfully the football field was unlocked so we had access to the track for a Fibonacci Sequence (Thanks for the new workout routine BoyBand). We began our run on the back stretch of the track. Every 200 meters we stopped and performed a designated number of Alternating Shoulder Taps, Carolina Dry Docks, Little Baby Crunches, and Monkey Humpers. Reps for each exercise in the set were increased at each stop following the Fibonacci Sequence (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55). It’s all fun and games in the beginning but things got real pretty quick.

Pre-Party Thang #2:

“Lovely Day” (remix) by Out of Eden came on the medic. All PAX hold plank and every time you here “Lovely Day” all PAX do 1 Merkin. Learned that in the early 90’s 3rd Degree had a thing for ladies that wore acid washed jean overalls (Good to know!).

Time’s up so we mosey back to the parking lot where we are joined by Tebow, Staples, Hush Puppy, Playboy, Ragdoll, and Old Hickory. Show Me had to Pre-Vac (Not sure why, but if I had to guess I would say it had something to do with opening day of Turkey Season).

Clock strikes 6am, Time to get this party started! Mosey over to the drainage ditch to pick up our coupon for the day.

Mosey across parking lot and circle up by the buses. As I look around the circle two PAX’s coupons are noticeably bigger. It appears that Tebow and Nimbus decided to bring their A-game today.

Need to get some more miles in on this workout so its time to Indian Run.

It was brought to my attention that we lost a PAX after the Bridge Burpee Broad Jumps so shortly after we started our run I decided to return to the parking lot. So after Nimbus went zooming by I decided to call a speedbump and have all the PAX turn around and begin the Indian Run back to the parking lot. Time for Nimbus to sprint to the front of the line again. This made Numbtucks extremely happy so I decided rinse and repeat this sequence so Nimbus could get some extra sprints in.

Now that the round of the “First Four” is over its time to get to the real madness. Pax moseyed over to the football field, counted off into four teams and the four “Regions” were identified. The workout areas were on the 10s and 50s of the field.

Championship Round

Pax counted off into 2 groups and took a shot at the “Sally” push-up challenge which came down to Nimbus and Barney almost making it to the end. Barney bested all of us this day, but I suspect we will all have another chance at this one again.

The prize for winning was a scratch off lotto ticket with a potential jackpot of $75,000.00.

Conditions: Clear, Cold 35 degrees just the way the big bass like it pre-spawn baby. Get the red lipless crank baits ready! Day 2 of the bassmaster classic is on!

Pax: 11 Pax Gaylord Focker, Ragdoll, Old Hickory, Stats, Little Miss piggy, Scrooge, 3rd Degree, TV guide, Kermit, Typo O positive guided by Q Show Me decided to come out for what they thought was going to be a little leisurely bank fishing but they were wrong. That ain’t how its done on the elite series. Anglers go hard.

Q asked what every Fisherman has to do before they hit the water? Breakfast!

5 is a really important Number come tournament time…. We need 5 Big ones in the livewell at the end of the day so we got to do some running. Since we don’t have the boat we’ll have to get it done the old fashion way….

Thang 2: Lake RUN (AKA Suicides on Tennis Court) x 5 rounds 

Now that we’ve done a little bit of Running we do what every elite series angler does. Throw in another big dip of Copenhagen baby.

Thang 3: 49 Dips – for the 49th annual bassmaster classic on the Tennessee River in Knoxville this weekend!

Sometimes you do a bunch of running and things don’t work out on a particular spot like you think they would. Maybe the water got dirty over night or the fish you had found in practice moved. PAX followed Q on a mosey to a new fishing hole since the gates were open to the field but the frost ruined the spot. So we had to do what good anglers do and what good dads, fathers, and husbands have to do daily. ADJUST! Gotta fish the water you’re dealt…..

Thang 4: Graphing….. We did some more running because our fish kept moving and so we did too. Pax did a mosey to a pseudo bridge where Q challenged Pax to duck walk half and Bear crawl Half. Q and Pax were unsure how we connect this to bass fishing but Ducks are a good bait!

Mosey to the Parking Lot where Pax finally were able to settle down a few key spots we’d nailed down through our lake searching…. Graphing pays off in the end!

Q should have connected Pax 4 Corners to our own 4 Corners Marina on Percy Priest but we’ll save Percy Priest for later….

The 1972 Bassmaster classic was held on our own Percy Priest Lake. This weekend marks only the 2nd time its ever been to the state of Tennessee. So we decided to honor the legacy

Remember Gaylords Mom as she battles memory loss along with Polar Express as he comes back from triple bypass. Lift of Gaylord and Cheezwiz both as they strive to be good leaders in their families during difficult times. Typo O and others Q included will be traveling this week for Spring Break. As its brought to your mind lift up those who will be on the roads as traveling can be really stressful.

Lets all embrace the good Spring weather God’s giving us right now and do our best to get outdoors with our neighbors and be salt and light in our communities.

Post Party: 3rd Degree, Ragdoll, TV Guide, Stats, Little Miss Piggy and Kermit wanted to catch some bigger fish and since they got the draw for the second flight in they headed to the democratic national convention to do so.

1 Minute Al Gore, 30 Seconds of Bernie Sanders (Politician Backwards) and 30 Seconds of Hilary Rodham Clintons.

Their rods were sore from all the hook sets after that for sure!

Fisherman were some of the first disciples Jesus called. They are hard core dudes. Franklin may have kicked our tails last week at Convergence but we are better for it. Keep up the good work guys and keep on castin!
