MOLESKINE: Be free of the outcome. Working in the ER means being prepared for anything to come through those doors with no warning. It also means that I rarely see how people end up. Someone comes in with a stroke or heart attack, and I have about five minutes to do everything I can for them before sending them off with a different team, and I may never find out what happened or even if they lived. People come in from overdosing on something. We get them stabilized and send them out just hoping they won’t fall off the wagon again. In those few moments I have with them, I have to give all my expertise (limited as it is), all my hope for them, and some joy to ease their fear. Then, when that time is up, I leave and do it again for the next patient. Every person I encounter, I want to see them healed, but that isn’t my place to force that. I have to trust my team, the other teams in the hospital, and the patient themselves. In doing that, if there is success, it isn’t mine alone. If there is failure, it isn’t all my fault. I have to give everything and then let go peacefully. Same can be said for raising our children and so many areas of life. Do what you can, and be free of the outcome. “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

MOLESKINE:
Find something you enjoy / want to do that also requires patience and endurance (a hobby, a home project, a health commitment). We’re so prone to seek the easy way out or the path of least resistance – that’s human. But practicing stick-to-it-ness does something to our souls that makes us better men.
Start with something you really want to do but may be hesitant to commit to. For me, it’s reading a really long classic novel or climbing a difficult route at the gym. It’s gonna suck sometimes but there’s a joy in pushing through the struggle to the end. Take the lessons learned from this experience and apply it to other areas of your life where giving up is easy.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:

[Pain Train] No Tables Were Harmed

Date: 2026-07-31 AO: Pain Train Q: Sooie , PAX: Sooie, El Capitan, Derby, Roadkill, Cheeks, Half Lyfe, FLO, Pebbles FNGs: None COUNT: 8 CONDITIONS: Six(ty)-Seven degrees. After days of oppressive heat and humidity, it felt downright glorious despite the lingering 89% humidity. A waning gibbous moon still lingered in the western sky, front-row seat to the coming dawn as the eastern horizon slowly caught fire. Mother Nature, for once, appeared to be on our side.
WARMUP: YHC announced the time and location, delivered the customary disclaimer, and made no promises whatsoever, thereby ensuring none could later be broken. We opened with what is rapidly becoming a fan favorite: Hop on Your Balls™ Performed in cadence: – Feet shoulder-width apart x10 – Right foot forward x10 – Left foot forward x10 – Alternating feet x10 Then: – BAC x12 – BBAC x12 – Good Mornings x5 OYO – Willy Mays Hays x5 OYO
THE THANG: The PAX arrived remarkably well-rested, having spent the previous evening performing the noble ritual of refreshing Slack every few minutes while awaiting Roadkill’s inevitable HC. At 21:14, he finally made the correct decision and we were able to put our phones down and go to sleep. Having warmed up, we were primed and ready to proceed to the 9 Square Colosseum We Indian Ran toward the Colosseum but not before reminding Roadkill that the point of an Indian Run is not to sprint into another ZIP code every time one reaches the front. Upon arrival, YHC unveiled the masterpiece. Traverse the perimeter of the bars without touching the ground. At each corner: – Perform one merkin. Each completed lap: – Increase merkins by one. Each time you fall: – One Iron Mike. Maximum penalty: Five. Elegant. Simple. Perfect… For approximately thirty seconds. A few things became immediately clear: 1. The bars were covered in heavy condensation thus making grip impossible. 2. The weight of the PAX jostling the bars exponentially increased the likelihood that we would all be charged with vandalizing municipal property 3. Said condensation and diminished grip-ability, exponentially increased the likelihood of yet another injury on YHC’s rap sheet. One lap was enough. The Colosseum survived. Retreat was sounded.
AUDIBLE! With thirty minutes still remaining, YHC did what every respectable Q occasionally must: I chucked the plan out the window like so many sandbags of yore. Two teams. Four men each. Complete as a team: – 100 Merkins – 200 WWIIs – 300 Squats
One PAX continuously carried a sandbag fifteen yards out and back while the remaining teammates accumulated reps. Team El Capitan, Pebbles, Half Lyfe, and FLO secured a decisive victory.
And still…time remained.
TRAVEL WITH A COUPON We moseyed to the cairn of coupons, retrieving our trusty Cindys before lining up for a traveling coupon relay. The traveler selected an exercise. The remaining PAX performed AMRAP until he completed ten yards. Favorites included: – Coupon Lunges – Suitcase Carries It was here that one PAX (Roadkill? Cheeks?) officially upgraded the exercise formerly known as Alabama Prom Date into the far more accurate: Plus-Sized Prom Date. General laughter ensued. History was made.
BECAUSE APPARENTLY I HAVEN’T LEARNED ANYTHING YHC then made what can only be described as another career-defining judgment call: Block-Hold Broad Jumps. In retrospect…Questionable. Pebbles reached the finish line, promptly folded himself into the earth like an abandoned lawn chair, and spent a brief moment contemplating the sweet embrace of unconsciousness. Another mark was quietly added to YHC’s ever-growing rap sheet. Fortunately, after a brief systems reboot, Pebbles recovered. The workout concluded with: – Murder Bunnies x10 yards – Return coupons
MARY: Merkin Ring of Fire to 5 though none of us remember actually doing this.
MOLESKINE: Plans rarely survive first contact. Sometimes the best thing you can do is recognize reality and pivot accordingly relying on the judgement and expertise of those around you
ANNOUNCEMENTS: – CSAUP: Postponed TBD – Bellevue Hang 8/12
COT: Prayers lifted. FLO Joe enjoyed. No tables were harmed in this beatdown…yet I can’t help shake the feeling that somehow, I injured Juicy J with this workout…
PLAYLIST: Songs that make you want to check-in to rehab.

Sooie & Insane Train: Sandbag Drift

Date: 2026-07-29 AO: Insane Train Q: Sooie , PAX: Choo Choo, El Capitan, Juicy J, Derby, Roadkill, Half Lyfe, Sooie, Inch Worm, Bang Bang FNGs: 1 Bang Bang COUNT: 9 CONDITIONS: Soupy. Though, to be fair, less soupy than yesterday. A thicc blanket of clouds concealed what would’ve otherwise been a full and glorious Buck Moon (see attached image), leaving us beneath a darkened sky with only the oppressive humidity to keep us company. YHC delivered the customary disclaimer: I am not a professional. Do what you can. Modify as needed. Listen to your body. blah blah blah. I also made the following explicit promise: “”I’m not interested in making anyone spill the Merlot or redlining the entire workout. We’ll keep the heart rates manageable.””In hindsight, it is clear that I failed you. On both counts. But I digress.
WARMUP: We began with “Hop on Your Balls.” The PAX bounced upon the balls of their feet as we progressively loosened the body: – Right leg back, continue bouncing. – Left leg back, continue bouncing. – Loosen the shoulders. – Bounce like Bruce Lee. With the PAX sufficiently warmed, we proceeded to contemplate the fundamental pillars of our beloved institution: The Mission of F3 followed by: 5 eccentric Sandbag Overhead Presses The Credo of F3: 5 eccentric Sandbag Curls The Five Core Principles: 5 eccentric Sandbag Squats
THE THANG: Sandbag Suicide Summer Continues Four cones. Sixteen yards apart. And apparently, no regard whatsoever for the promises made during the disclaimer. Beginning at Cone 1, the PAX would throw the sandbag repeatedly until it reached Cone 2. Once there: – 3 Sandbag OHP Then walk the sandbag back to Cone 1. Again, we advanced the bag—throw by throw—to Cone 3. Upon arrival: – 3 OHP – 6 Curls Then walk the sandbag all the way back to Cone 1. Finally, the march toward inevitable regret continued. The bag was hurled toward Cone 4. Upon reaching the final cone: – 3 OHP – 6 Curls – 9 Squats Then, with the bag in tow, we walked the full distance back to Cone 1. One round complete. Then we changed the method of chucking. ROUND 1: Deadlift → Clean → Throw ROUND 2: Behind-the-Back Throw ROUND 3: Goblin / Granny Throw ROUND 4: Alternating Battering Ram Throw The PAX lined up, with the Jon’s coalescing at the right flank. If Puzzlah would’ve been there, we would’ve achieved a 50% Jon representation…again, I digress. The workout quickly revealed itself to be less of a leisurely summer excursion and more of an extended negotiation with the limits of human cardiovascular function (Juicy J excluded). Despite my earlier assurances, heart rates had been flirting with the redline for approximately twenty minutes. At this point, YHC was forced to confront an uncomfortable truth: I had failed you. So, between Rounds 3 and 4, we took a quick mosey in an attempt to bring the heart rates down and restore some semblance of civilization. Upon returning, we lined up to begin Round 3…except our FNG was missing. A brief search and rescue revealed that he had been conducting a thorough structural inspection of the foundations of the comfort station. The inspection was apparently conducted at close range with considerable enthusiasm. Roadkill’s running commentary regaling the PAX with a collection of anecdotes detailing YHC’s questionable Q decisions of days past made the workout much more bearable. T-claps to Derby, Half Lyfe, El Capitan, and Choo Choo for absolutely crushing all 4 rounds!
MOLESKINE: Reflected on building traditions and legacy within a family.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: – Bellevue Hang 8/12 (2nd wednesday of the moth) see FLO or check slack. – CSAUP see Chunks – F3 Community Presence at Bellevue Farmer’s Market (pending) see Derby
COT/COFFEETERIA: – Prayer requests were shared and lifted.
Unfortunately, coffeeteria wasn’t without it’s own incidence…Having survived the field, the PAX gathered for the traditional post-beatdown fellowship and then, in a cruel twist of fate, Juicy J went down during coffeeteria. Somehow, my Q had managed to deliver a delayed critical hit to his hammy. The sandbag had claimed another victim. At this point, I can only conclude that my Qs hit Juicy J harder than they hit everyone else…but I digress.
PLAYLIST: “Heat of the Moment”, “There’s no easy way out”…but these were only playing in my head.
