Glutes And Ladders

PAX: Princess Aurora, Silver Medal, Bicentennial Man, Boone’s Farm, Harbaugh, Lumbergh, En Fuego

QIC: En Fuego

Conditions: A perfect Thanksgiving week gloom

7 PAX got in the Holiday spirit today, as we embarked on a F3 family road trip to take in some Christmas lights while dusting off an old family board game of Chutes and, err, Glutes and Ladders.

THE THANG:

0530 Disclaimer given and we begin our mosey from the friendly confines of III Pillars to the Green Hills Hill Center.  YHC had previously issued a challenge to the PAX to get the Q-calendar full for the balance of 2018.  Despite the valiant effort of a few, select HIM, we had one open Q spot remaining and with that a penalty is issued – during our mosey for every car that passes us going southbound we stop for four merkins.  Approximately 40ish merkins performed in route – all PAX thankful those cars traveling northbound were not included in the penalty count.

Arrive at the Hill Center and set up COP under the holiday lights across from Zoe’s / Pei Wei.  The PAX knock out some WMH, GMs and Scorpion stretches; PA spends his time perusing Kendra Scott’s latest collections through the window, potential stocking stuffers for the M no doubt on his mind. We then head down the stairs to the bottom floor of the Whole Foods garage, where we count off in 1s and 2s and instructions for Glutes and Ladders are given.

There are six flights of stairs.  Team 1 goes first, up the first flights of stairs, perform 5 Imperial Squat Walkers, back down the stairs.  While Team 1 goes, Team 2 is performing Lieutenant Dans.  Flapjack.  Once Team 2 returns, Team 1 takes off again, this time going up two flights of stairs, where they stop and perform 10 Imperial Squat Walkers.  R&R until both teams knock out six flights of stairs, with Imperial Squat Walkers increasing to 15 reps (3rd flight), 20 reps (4th flight), 25 reps (5th flight) and 30 reps (6th flight).

PAX all in, mosey back under the lights to the street that divides the Hill Center.  Team 1 runs approximately 50 yards (always facing Hillsboro Blvd, so backwards mosey during half the run) and performs 10 Bulgarian Split Squats each leg.  While Team 1 goes, Team 2 is performing flutter kicks.  Flapjack.  After one round, we are short on time and we head back to the friendly confines, with one stop along the way to knock out 20 more merkins.  Arrive back at 6:15 and 59 seconds on the dot, with the run home slightly more painful than the initial run out.  Huddle up for COT/BOM.

BULLHORN:

  • Bicentennial will be leading the next round of F3 Libeery – December 11th at Fat Bottom Brewery.  Freed to Lead is the book of choice.
  • Umbrella, our 12th Man for December, is hosting a leadership luncheon December 7th at Richland Country Club.  Get your RSVP in to Umbrella on slack.
  • 6th man was Harbaugh – glad to have him back in the fold!

MOLESKIN:

In this season of Thanksgiving, extremely thankful and feel blessed to have all of you HIM in my life.  Appreciate y’alls leadership, your accountability and allowing me the opportunity to lead.  There are certainly many days where I can take home the trophy as biggest facade or poser as a leader in my professional life, or a leader within my home.  But there is never a facade with F3 – and that has nothing to do with my Q talents, or primarily lack thereof, but everything to do with the men who populate the COT and the environment that you create.  F3 counts – and I am appreciative.

Lastly, for those keeping score, I’ve got all in 2.24 total miles traversed, 21 flights of steps climbed, 105 Imperial Squat Walkers performed and 10+ minutes of Lieutenant Dans.  Sprinkle in some Bulgarian Split Squats – impressive work by all!

NMM:

Great work this AM by the PAX as YHC pulled out an oldschool ‘Pon beatdown replete with Rebar and all its friends.  First time to post with Care Bear, he lived up to his name for whatever that means.  Foxtrot with his normal Midwife noises and complaining.  Deep Dish with his usual crushing of the Pull Ups and modification of most everything else.  YHC was in the Drs corner and all 3 of us were struggling.  Felt like I didn’t see Bad Boy until the very end of the Q almost as if he was just having a smoke over there until we Mary’d up…will have to check the surveillance footage.

So, as YHC mentioned, today marked roughly the 4 year anniversary of the birth of Bagger Vance aka ATQ (both of which are acceptable monikers as is BV).  I am forever indebted to 5 Star for the nudge to join and for all the HIM along the way that have made me better and didn’t leave me behind.  There have been way more good times, deep conversations and bonds built than YHC would have ever expected.  I can say that without F3 my life wouldn’t be as full and rich as it is.  Just yesterday, I had two conversations with HIM that I would likely never have known had 5 Star not EH’d me at Belle Meade $4Bux those years ago.

Instead of a sappy or inspiring #WASNOW YHC dug into the vault along with the help of Cambrige Analytica, Breitbart and Alex Jones to come up with some very compelling statistics over the last 48 months and here they are…

7 December at Richland CC leadership lunch hosted by Umbrella, $20/head for lunch buffet…I heard it was all you can eat and the menu is as follows: Chitterlings, Pizza Logs, Corn dogs and all the Fanta (Blue and Orange) you can drink.

YHC,

BV

It’s a block party, and you’re all invited!

PAX: 3rd Degree, Old hickory, Backlash, Black Lung, Boyband, Toga (QIC)

It was 70 and sunny as 5 (the sixth came much later), posted for some fun in the sun.  Here’s how it went down.

Mosey to the block stash and then farmer’s carry your new best friend to the parking deck.  Warmup COP= SSH, merkins, mtn climbers, Don Quixote, maybe something else?

Partner up and line up at the top of the ramp for the official start of the party.  P1 block curls while P2 runs to the bottom of the ramp and back. Repeato x3 then switch to squats (Note: At the end of this is when Black Lung shows up sans block.  This totally jacked up YHC’s Feng shui).  Take a breather while doing flutter kicks. Then back on the line for P1 alternating shoulder presses while P2 runs down and back, repeato x3 then switch to dead lifts.  Execute full extensions with blocks in cadence.

Mosey to far corner of the lot and stay with your partner.  P1 holds plank on block while P2 executes 5 Blorpees (block burpee with press), repeato x2.  Execute some other block exercise while P2 bear crawls to next parking area and backwards run back to P1, repeato x2.  PAX holds hands in block on the ground while executing leg raises in cadence then P1 executes block press while P2 completes block drag/push to next parking area and back, repeato x2.

Mary= APD with blocks on hips in cadence then get back to back with partner for Rocky tribute passing blocks 10x right then 10x left.  Mosey back to flag for COT.

Announcements:  Don’t forget to signup for Umbrella’s meeting

NMM:  It’s always interesting to see everyone’s cold weather action figure when it gets below freezing.  You can pretty much see it all, and I’m sure some people (cough Backlash) spent the rest of the morning searching for heavy duty cold weather gloves.

Stay Classy,

Toga

Stonewall – 11.10.18 – “Audible”

5 PAX and a sidelined Bagger Vance braved the chill for a cardio-heavy Q by YHC.

QIC: Princess Aurora

PAX: Pumpkin Spice, Blue Mule, Hambone, Boyband, Bagger Vance (Audience Member)

THE THANG:

Quick disclaimer then off for a warm-up mosey around  the community center and back to the lot for COP, all IC:

  • SSH x 20
  • Squats x 15
  • WMH x 16
  • LBAC F/R x 10
  • Merkins x 10

Off on another mosey to preview the route for today’s main event. Roughly, .35 miles later, we had returned to the cars. At this point, YHC went to unlock his car and grab the supplies, but alas, the key fob battery had frozen. Not only did this leave me wondering how to modify, but it also left me fearful that I might not be able to get home. No matter! There’s a workout to finish first.

AUDIBLE:

Each pax completes a round of Burpees x 10, Merkins x 20, and Squats x 30, followed by a lap. RnR x 5 with the added caveat that if you were tagged by anyone along the course, you had to drop and do 5 burpees. I don’t actually know that anyone was tagged because I was too busy leading from the front.

All in and it was over to the jungle gym for some pull-ups. One pax performed 10 reps and gave the rest an exercise to do. RnR down the line, and then go again with 8 reps, then 6, then 8 again. Exercises included:

  • Donkey Kicks
  • Crunchy Frogs
  • Freddie Mercuries
  • Leg Raises
  • Manmakers
  • LOTS of Jane Fondas (Blue Mule special)

Long mosey around the perimeter of Sevier and back to the lot of 3MOM. Boxcutters, Flutters, and more before COT/BOM.

BULLHORN:

Well, I was bummed that I didn’t get to use my supplies, but, I’m grateful for the lessons learned in this dry run of my “fun idea.” Now I can hone it a little more before debuting the real thing. Another positive is that I was able to warm my keys up enough to get back into my car.

MOLESKINE:

  • Congrats to F3 Rucktrain (Funyuns, Big Bang, Grisham, and Tortoise) for finishing first at the Star Course in Jacksonville. Honorable mention goes to Bagger for training with them. I know he was bummed to not be there.
  • Keep that Q calendar full, guys. Winter is coming, but the workouts won’t stop!
  • Speaking of winter, the 2nd Annual Hillympics are just around the corner. Talk to Frugal for more details.
  • As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, I know I’m very grateful for each and every one of you and the opportunities to lead and be led by you. Prayers for safe travels as you all go to spend time with your families over the next couple of weeks.
  • Go Tigers.

PA out.

Halloween Retrospective

PAX: Too Tall, Razorback, Ollan Mills, Boone’s Farm, Offshore, CCR, Bagger Vance, Dijiorno (Special out of town guest), Backlash, Yard Sale, Pope, Tampa Libra, Umbrella, Toga

A frightful fourteen posted for a little Halloween celebration at the track.  Here’s how it went down:

Quick disclaimer then mosey to parking lot beside the parking deck for warmarama= zombie walks, dead man drag merkins, scorpions, dead cockroaches

Mosey to Parking Deck for DONNIE DARKO= hustle up the stairs to the top of the deck then complete 28 merkins.  Hustle down the stairs, plank for the six then repeato x3 for 6 Turkish getups, 42 boxcutters and 12 burpees.

Mosey down to the bottom of the level 5 ramp then begin ZOMBIE CHASERS. The PAX sprinted up the ramp with the last of the PAX ‘zombified’ and sentenced to executing leg lifts while the rest of the PAX continued up and down the ramp with a new zombie designated until nobody was left.  Yard Sales was the big winner!

Mosey down to level five to begin the homage to The Exorcist.  CCR became possessed and had to yell out an exercise for the PAX to execute ten reps at every other colored column on the way down the deck.  Exercises included burpees, atomic merkins, single leg deadlifts, side shuffle squats, mtn climber merkins.., maybe something else.

Mosey back to the flag for a few minutes of Marie/Carrie.  CCR gave us his 6th Man.

COT and YHC took us out.

Announcements:  Prayers for Ollan Mills’ family and Umbrella’s friends

  • Big thanks to Dijiorno for coming out and safe travels back to Louisville
  • Lunch Friday at the Cookery
  • Congrats to Grease Trap on the new arrival
  • 12/7 Leadership breakfast being coordinated by Umbrella.  See his post in General

NMM:  First, let me say that this entire workout was stolen/borrowed from Honey Do in RVA.  He’s a huge horror movie fan and always brings it on Halloween.  That said, YHC must have failed as Too Tall and Umbrella could be heard chatting through most of the workout.  “This aggression will not stand, Man!”  Also, it was a big win for all of us that Yard Sale is the fastest and therefore will become the future seed of man in the coming zombie apocalypse.

Stay Classy!

III Pillars – 10.30.18 – “FOMO Once, Shame On You. FOMO Twice…”

8 PAX gathered ’round the pillars because the FOMO was too strong to keep them away.

Conditions: a cool 45 degrees, little wind, and zero clouds obstructing our stargazing.

QIC: Princess Aurora

PAX: En Fuego, Silver Medal, Bicentennial Man, Harbaugh, Boone’s Farm, Foggy Pirate, Life Champ

THE THANG:

After a mosey over and around the backdoor of the retirement center, we made our way to the track and circled up at midfield for some exercises, all IC:

  • SSH x 20
  • SnL Squats x 10
  • LBAC F x 10
  • Moroccan Nightclub x 50
  • LBAC R x 10
  • Thighmasters x 10 e/s
  • Alabama Prom Dates x 10

We jogged down to the bottom of the hill that enters the track and YHC explained today’s festivities (with perfect clarity and zero room for misinterpretation). PAX partnered up and each member of the team completed the following circuit:

FOMO Once:

  • Flutter Kicks x 50 (2ct)
  • Overhead Squats x 50
  • Mike Tysons x 50
  • Overhead Lunges x 50 (25 e/s)

Additionally, one team at a time would Bernie Sanders up to the track, Jump Squats x 10, sprint the straightaway, bear crawl the turn, sprint the backstretch, crawl bear the next turn, and run back down the hill to tag the next pair and pick up where they left off in the FOMO circuit. Plank and wait once done with all exercises.

FOMO Twice:

  • Flutter Kicks x 25 (2ct)
  • Overhead Squats x 25
  • Mike Tysons x 25
  • Overhead Lunges x 26 (13 e/s)

Same lap as above but once done with FOMO circuit, Bernie Sanders AMRAP until all in. #feelthebern

Time’s up and mosey back for COT/BOM.

MOLESKINE:

Kotters to Harbaugh. Glad to have him back in action at a legitimate F3 workout as apparently there’s some watered down version happening over at the BMCC every once in a while. Also great to be part of a crowd of eight killing it at Tres Pilares. En Fuego and Co. are upping the ante.

BULLHORN:

  • AOQ’s and/or Q’s, remember to keep a phone on your person in case of emergency.
  • First Friday Lunch at The Cookery this Friday, Nov 2 from 11:30 until everybody decides they should probably check in back at the office.
  • Umbrella, our 12th Man for December, has arranged for Dan Klein, speaker, cancer survivor, and author of My 3:59 – The Man I Am Called To Be, to speak to the group at Richland Country Club on Dec 7 at 11:30. Cost will be $20 and will include a lunch buffet. Please RSVP to Umbrella on Slack.
  • Speaking of buffets, Tigers sure feasted this weekend didn’t they, Crab Legs?

PA out.

Sack full of balls

PAX: En Fuego, Black Widow, Backlash, Offshore, Joey Freshwater, Umbrella, Boone’s Farm, Toga (QIC)

Eight posted on a beautiful Fall morning for a little unexpected fun.  YHC promised a bit of fun if we got at least eight, and here’s how it went down:

Disclaimer then mosey to tennis courts at the park.  Warmup COP, 4x arc loaders across the courts and back.  Bear crawl followed by sprints x2.

Divide into two teams of four to engage in the first annual Nashville F3 Dodgeball contest.  It’s just like regular dodgeball except you do 5 burpees when hit.  If three people on the same team are made to do burpees at one time, then they must do 10 burpees as a team,  and the ‘winning’ team does five burpees and gets a point.  JF, Umbrella, BW and EF lost three to nada.

Mosey back to parking lot for 4-5 rounds of “Don’t Tell Me About My Abs”= core exercise quickly followed by 5 merkins and plank hold.

COT with prayers for all those still living with the impact of the recents storms.

NMM:  This is a fun/different workout from YHC’s RVA days.  That said, the last time involved many more firm and heavier balls.  Toga’s current sack of fun involved many softer and lighter balls that proved to be more difficult to toss with any distance or accuracy.  They also didn’t quite have the impact that any player would want to hear from their balls.  Maybe Santa will reload with a firmer set for Xmas?

The Forge 10/20/2018 – Love Thy Neighbor and Swamp Bears

15 PAX came together in the gloom, welcomed the sunrise, and got a little stronger. Pax in attendance included: Barney Fievel (Q), Numbtucks, 3rd Degree, Sterno, Creeper, Mursa, Hushpuppy, Costa Rica, Cheese Whiz, Ragdoll, Sprinkles, Netflix, Pocahontas, Stats, and Little Miss Piggy

Long mosey around outside perimeter fence of football field. Various comments were made about how people that run marathons are over achievers and generally suck. Haters gonna hate.

Disclaimer

Warm Up:

20 SSH, 30 seconds Good Mornings OYO, 30 seconds WMH OYO. Other various stretches Barney called out.

Stop by Barney’s beautiful black truck and pick up your coupon (20 pounds).

Thang 1: Love Thy Neighbor

PAX took 10 seconds to partner up. 4 exercises with an assigned number of reps (below) must be completed as a 2-man group. One PAX begins assigned exercise while other PAX jogs out to the predesignated marker (about 75 yards). That PAX jogs back to partner performing exercise and picks up where they left off. Repeat until assigned number of reps of each exercise are completed. How much do you love your neighbor? Enough to pick up the pace on that jog back and “relieve” him?!

Exercises were:

  • 60 Blockees (coupon burpees)
  • 80 Block Merkins
  • 100 Block Squats
  • 120 Block American Hammers

Thang 2: Swamp Bears (11’s)

An old favorite, 11’s. PAX line up on the short side of the parking lot. Two exercises are Ginuwines with coupons and WWIs. Bear crawl across the parking lot is mode of transportation.  40 yard bear crawls between exercises kept us from finishing on time. Next time.

Mary

Barney led the group in some yoga stretches, toe touches, and other various stretches. Flexibility is power!
