THANG:
I was talking with Frugal after last week’s session, and he had a “fun” idea for an Hourglass themed workout up on the football field. Here was the plan:

H – Hand Release Merkins
O – One Legged Donkey Kicks
U – Up Downs (four count feet chop then drop)
R – Ranger Merkins
G – Gorilla Humpers
L – Lt. Dans
A – Atomic Merkins
S – Sumo Squats
S – Scissor Abs

The hourglass theme came from starting in one corner of the endzone with 15 reps of the first exercise. From there, you run across to the other side of the endzone to do 15 more reps of the same exercise. Then you run diagonally to the far endzone with a 5 burpee speed bump at the 50-yard line. You do 15 more reps of the first exercise in the far endzone, and then you run across the endzone for 15 more reps of the same exercise. After that, you run diagonally back across the field to the starting endzone with another 5 burpee speed bump at the 50-yard line.

All in all, you end up doing 60 reps (60 minutes per hour) of each exercise with 10 burpees per cycle. You also end up running in an hourglass shape across the football field.

This was a bit of an ambitious list of exercises. We made it through U before YHC came to the realization that the burpee speed bump was slowing down the progression too much. After dropping those off, everyone made it all the way through the Lt. Dans cycle. A couple of guys were halfway through the Atomic Merkins cycle.

This should be doable without the burpees. I think it might be good to put the list of exercises on a board/sheet of paper and allow the PAX to choose their own adventure if you will. This might allow better cycling of legs/upper body exercises than the prescribed HOURGLASS order.

Mary consisted of a good long high plank while we waited for the six and for Frugal to get his phone to record all 19 names.

As always, it’s a pleasure to lead, so thanks for allowing me to get out there and get better with you all.

Yesterday was YHC’s birthday, and I wanted to put something together that would keep up with the recent trend of running oriented workouts at Stonewall. BV brought out an FNG (Shoeless Joe), so I made sure to drop the disclaimer at 5:59:30. After that, we circled up for:

WOR:
SSH x41 IC (41 was the number of the day. ? It was at this point BV asked if this was my birthday or something.)
Good Mornings x10 IC
Willie Mays Hayes x10 IC
Baby Arm Circles Forward x10 IC
Baby Arm Circles Reverse x10 IC
Air Presses x10 IC
Slow and Low Merkins x10 IC

THANG:
Since 41 was the number today, we started out with 41 burpees. 10 on the minute for 3 minutes and 11 on the last minute.

After that, I just felt like running.

Why?

We ran out the Sevier parking lot and down Linden Lealand over to the 440 Greenway Park (4GP for short). Once there, we ran all the way up the hill to the top of the loop and back down to Sevier Park. We ran this loop 4 times during the course of the workout. Each time back at Sevier, we’d do a little COP that consisted of:

Round 1 & 4:
WWI x16 OYO
Alabama Prom Dates x15 IC
Merkins x10 IC

Round 2:
Flutter Kicks x16 IC
Alternating Shoulder Taps x15 IC
Merkins x10 IC

Round 3:
Big Boy Sit Ups x16 OYO
Hello Dolly’s x15 IC
Merkins x10 IC

Four laps to 4GP and back ended up right around 4.2ish miles. I was shooting for 4.1ish, so we’ll just call that extra tenth one to grow on. We still had a few minutes left after our last round, so we moseyed over to the swing set for two sets of:

Wall Dips x21
Incline Merkins x20

We moseyed back to the parking lot for MARY:

Good Mornings x21
Willie Mays Hayes x20

I figured everyone needed a good stretch after putting in four plus miles.

BH:

  1. Stonewall is still happening next week even though there are a couple of other events going on the same day.
  2. TN CAN RUCK next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Touch base with Princess Aurora if you’re interested and haven’t signed up yet.
  3. Warpath takes place down in Franklin next Saturday too. Feel free to double up if you’re feeling squirrelly.

Thanks for allowing me to lead yesterday morning. It’s always a pleasure. Thanks for all of the birthday wishes too!

4:13 Strong’s final workout for the current group is on Thursday. Let’s get out there and support those guys before they start their new jobs.

Great work today everyone! It’s always an honor to lead! Before we started this morning, CCR and PSL asked me if today was gonna be an easy intro into the week. I responded by telling them that I wasn’t sure if what I had planned was crazy or not. Hopefully everyone thought it was a good start to the week.

Cruel Hall 02/16/18 – Knowing is Half the Battle

QIC: Vegemite

PAX: Bagger Vance, PreVac, Ludwig Von Oshkosh, Big Stick, Floppy Disk, Skidmark, Olan Mills, Edible Arrangements, Black Lung, Razor (Venus), Tidy Cats, Rooster, Swampfox, Accounts Receivable, Yard Sale, Foxtrot Talks A Lot, Frogger, Offshore, Brother-at-Law, 3rd Degree, Spider Bite, Balloon Knot (FNG), Sandlapper (FNG) (Missing two on this list — ping me on Slack if I didn’t include you.)

YHC’s first solo Q saw 26 HIM up bright and early for a little Cruel Hall action. As there were two FNGs today, BV suggested I drop the disclaimer before a quick mosey out of the parking lot and back around for today’s WOR:

SSH x15 IC
Slow and Low Squats x12 IC
Good Mornings x10 IC
Willie Mays Hayes x10 IC
Calf Stretch x10 IC
Baby Arm Circles x10 IC
Reverse BAC x10 IC

PAX counted off by twos, and the 1s looked to their left to find their partner for the day. Then we all moseyed down to the bottom of the bus loop for an explanation of today’s THANG:

A documentary series on Netflix called The Toys That Made Us inspired today’s workout. If you were a kid in the 80s, you owe it to yourself to check it out. One of the toys they covered was G.I. Joe, so what better way to take everyone back to their childhood than by working together to defeat Cobra. This was a variation on B.O.M.B.S., and I’ve listed the modifications below:

Cobra - A ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.

C: Carolina Dry Docks x150
O: Overhead Claps x200
B: Big Boy Situps x200
R: Reverse Lunges x200
A: Americans (AKA Merkins) x150

Partners worked together to complete all reps. Partner 1 started the exercises while partner 2 ran the bus loop. Flapjack that until each team completed all reps. Teams planked and waited for the six.

Once we finished that up, YHC realized there wasn’t enough time to properly pay tribute to one of the most B.A. characters in the G.I. Joe universe, Snake Eyes. Don’t worry, we might revisit my plan for him at some point in the future.

Instead, we moseyed back to the playground area for 80 rows split among each team. Partner 1 started while partner 2 did AMRAP merkins. Once we finished that up, we moseyed back up to the parking lot to end the week like Ludwig started it. We actually finished two rounds of his excellent Bear Crawl/Crawl Bear Suicide and Burpee Extravaganza. Partner 1 started off with the Bear Crawls, while partner 2 did AMARP burpees — we flapjacked that after P1 finished.

Somehow during the Bear Crawls/Burpees, the timer on my watch stopped. It seemed strange that there was always 5 minutes left every time I looked down at it. After the suicide/burpee combo, MARY consisted of 20x Flutter Kicks followed by 20x Hello Dollys. Fortunately, someone else knew it was time to stop after that.

COT:
Keep Prevac and his wife in your thoughts and prayers. She’s been dealing with dizziness, head/neck pain, and nausea due to some inflammation in her mandible. Also, please continue to keep Ludwig and his wife in your thoughts and prayers. Last Friday was one year out from her brain tumor surgery.

I appreciate y’all allowing me to Q, and I’m looking forward to more in the future.

SYITG,
Vegemite
