Good Mornings

Moleskin:

Q has been doing a deep study of the Proverbs recently for personal growth.  Proverbs 4:5 tells us to get wisdom, though it may cost you all you have.  It made me think about what is the cost of wisdom?  Much of what we at F3 talk about in regards to leadership is what the scriptures refer to as wisdom.  It is costly to be a leader.  It costs time and discipline.  It costs emotional energy.  It costs ego, because wisdom and leadership is not about us – it’s all about giving it away.  But the gains outweigh the cost.  The gain of the good life, the gain of healthy marriages, and influence in others lives far outweigh the costs.

It is always an honor to lead and serve.  See you in the gloom

A nice and cool 61 degrees greeted 26 PAX last Friday. Thinking that it would be good day for some encouraging partner work, and being inspired by Q’s reading for IronClad challenge, Q gave the disclaimer.

Taking the long loop around the bus loop, Q surprises PAX with a left turn into the new parking lot. FoxTrot and Big Stick stumble into finding us in circle and much mumblechatter begins with the arrival of FoxTrot who stood next to BV.

Count off 1’s and 2’s – 1’s look to your left, 2’s to your right and that is partner for the day. Each exercise is done together. Q quoted Andy Crouch from his book “Strong and Weak:”
Leadership begins the moment you care about others flourishing more than your own. Q was really moved by this statement this summer and let that wisdom guide our workout together.

THANG

Bear Crawl up the bus hill with partner. Once you get to the gate, jog back down to the bus hill.

Lunge up the bus hill with partner (these felt especially good after PSL’s beatdown at detention). Run back to the bus loop.

Burpee broadjump up the bus hill with partner. This one was a favorite of the PAX.

Then mosey to playground where we with our partner did three sets of 10 pullups, 20 rows, and 25 dips. Pre-Vac prevacced.

Line up under pavilion. With partner do 11’s – burpee/mountain merkin combination. That sucked.

COT – Q school and 4 year F3 anniversary September 29th.

Q reminded PAX that some are faster, some are slower, some in great shape, some are just beginning, but we all need each other. Today we practiced caring more about the other than ourselves. For some of us that sped us up. For some of us that slowed us down. But we did it together. We all need people to walk with in life together. If we truly want to be leaders, care more about the flourishing of others than your own.

Always an honor to lead.

QIC: Dupree

As today is the day we remember the life of MLK Jr., Q thought that it would be befitting to workout the DREAM.  Dr. King gave America a great vision of judging people on the content on of their character rather than the color of their skin.  Today we honor that dream and of course judge you on the content  of your burpees.

Announcements:

Q has been talking with Bagger and other PAX about expanding F3 Serve.  This would be part of the 3rd F.  What we are wanting to do is take the F3 workout philosophy to F3 serve.  Once a month one of us would Q a service project for the guys to get involved with.  In November we did Room in the Inn.  December Numb Tucks led out with the backpacks for foster kids.  This is an opportunity for you to step up and we learn about the issues and people you care about.

Mole Skin:

CCR approached me about Qing today, and it hit me that it would be MLK Day.  His life is an inspiring one.  The philosophy of overcoming hate with creative love is a legacy and a challenge that endures to this day.  Because of MLK we have come a long way as a country in racial relations.  We still have a long way to go.  Let’s continue to be men of character and live out MLK’s dream.

I cannot express how grateful I am to be part of F3, especially on a day like today.  It gave me purpose for getting out of bed this morning.  Maggie and Ellen taught me more about life in their 30 minutes than anybody else ever has.  Grief has taught me it is ok to struggle.  It is ok to have a broken heart.  Because a broken heart is an open heart, and God can work wonders with an open heart.  It was an honor to share a little about my girls and to lead this morning.

If anyone cares to read a bit more of our story, here is my wife’s blog from that time:  http://sarahchisolmmiller.blogspot.com/2014/

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A few PAX interested in buying F3 gear.  Funyuns noted the importance of sizing up.  We prayed for Harvey and Irma victims, the Kemps, and for God to continue to bless us and our families as we seek to serve Him.

It was an honor Qing this morning.  As I thought about the workout, I couldn’t help but think of all the people in the aftermath of the storms that have hit our coasts lately.  They are having to persevere and endure the trauma of putting their lives back together.  As we kept moving today, I was reminded that we are training our bodies, minds, and souls to persevere no matter what comes our way.  (A little 3rd F for you on this rainy day).
