Back to School. Shaking off the Summer Rust

The IIIP crew had become a little rusty over the summer so YHC felt the need to “edumacate” the PAX a little as we head back to school.

QIC: Silver Medal

PAX: En Fuego, Lumbergh (Respect), Princess Aurora, Moneyshot, Twin Peaks, Crablegs, Sideline (FNG), Toothless

CONDITIONS:  Honestly, conditions were utterly oppressive.  Really.  80+ degrees.  Perfect!

WOR w/ MOSEY

Started with a Capri Lap around the church parking lot to make sure we would be seen toward the front of the grounds in the event PA, Crablegs and Toothless decided to show up (note the previous evening HCs).  Back up to the field for some WOR (SSH x 15, WMH x 15, LBAC x 15)…still no sign of the three who have apparently gone UA.

THANG

As we mosey to the playground, YHC proceeds to talk to the PAX about the various structures upon which different schools base their curriculum(s)(i)(a)? FNG Sideline was quick to intervene after noticing my obvious struggle with Latin, informing me that the plural of curriculum is “curricula”. All of that prep school Latin is finally paying off for him I see.  Back to the workout.  Many schools are based on the STEM curriculum; others, like St Paul, are on the STEAM program.  (The PAX later learned how painful Art really is).

Partner Up 1 / 2

SSwerkin – The PAX learned the SCIENCE behind pushups and that they are actually not bodybuilding chest exercises.  They are part of the calisthenics family since they are body weight only, and actually more core exercise than anything – using your full body.  The PAX learned that F3 actually has a version to help them better feel the pushup as a full core exercise.  (Total team 100 – one exercise / one does lap)

T –  Turkish Get Up – We learned that Turkey has the 3d fastest growing population in the use of mobile TECHNOLOGY for e-commerce. (One partner exercise AMRAP, other lap – goal is 3 laps each)

EEverest – The PAX learned that Mt Everest is part of two countries: Nepal and Tibet, which is a part of China.  The Chinese have been by far (for better or worse) the largest investor in the ENGINEERING of the road and trail infrastructure of the mountain for years.  (Start from bottom of Bernie Hill.  “Everest” up, lap around track, RnR sans lap)

AApple Turnover  The PAX learned that Apple has recently released an unprecedented augmented reality program in six cities whereby you can walk the cities and the phone can display digital ART against the landscape.  (20/20/20yds flop bearcrawl/crabwalk/bearcrawl, lap, RnR, lap)

MMexican Jumping Bean Pull-ups  The PAX learned that the Mayans were one of – if not the most – well known experts in MATH.  From the discovery of absolute 0/zero to the Mayan, calendar.  The Mayans are a large part of the modern day country of Mexico.  (Total team 50 – one exercise / one does lap)

Few minutes to spare to talk to the PAX about COMMON CORE CURRICULUM as we mosey back down to the parking lot.  After a brief AOQ-infused penalty, we proceeded to finish up with some Captain Thors. (10/40)

BULLHORN:

  • September 14 – F3 NASHVILLE 5-yr celebration.
  • [Former Skunk] AO now posting at St Paul in Green Hills on Mondays.  Meant to be collective training ground – if you’ve got an upcoming endurance event on the calendar (ruck, run, etc.) come post and get your training on with your fellow PAX.
  • Continued prayer for Boone’s Farm

It was an honor to lead this morning.  Stay sharp and listen to your teachers!

Silver Medal

Atlantis – 8.15.19 – “The Mount Rushmore of Pro Wrestling”

4 HIM took the DRP and fought through a phalanx of bodyweight exercises to become honorary Hulkamanics.

PAX: Crablegs, Trapper Keeper, Vector

QIC: Cunning Linguist

After a surprisingly short disclaimer (given YHC’s typically verbosity), we departed from the shovelflag area at 0530 with Bluetooth speaker in tow and moseyed approximately halfway around the lower soccer field and then found a dry spot to circle up for our WOR:

WOR:

20xSSH

15xLBAC

15xrLBAC

16xWMH

15SnL Squats

Feeling sufficiently warmed, we then moseyed to the playground area and then YHC announced THE THANG.

But first, some background: as a child of the 80’s, YHC was obsessed at an early age with pro wrestling.  YHC decided to create a list of my “Mount Rushmore of Pro Wrestlers” as well as a related playlist to keep us all motivated.

THANG 1:

Song 1: “Real American” by Derringer – Theme Song of Hulk Hogan

During the verse, we performed American Hammers.

During the chorus, we performed Merkins. (because who is more American than the Hulkster, brother?!)

Countdown from 30-1, then short mosey to benches where YHC announced his second member of the Mount Rushmore of Pro Wrestlers.

Song 2: “Warrior” by Scandal ft. Patty Smyth – Song to represent Ultimate Warrior

During the verse, we performed Lt. Dans

During the chorus, we performed Overhead Presses (just like the Warrior).

Mosey around the lower field until finding a dry spot for our next stop.

Song 3: “Macho Man” by Village People – Song to represent “Macho Man” Randy Savage

During the verse, we performed Side Straddle Hops

During the chorus, we performed Burpees (because we all want to be macho men).

Yet another mosey toward lower parking lot, then pull off for final member of my list.

Song 4: “Rock & Roll All Night” by KISS – Song to represent Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

During the verse, we performed Squats

During the chorus, we performed Jump Squats (because we can’t perform the People’s Elbow without powerful legs as well – and have you seen the size of The Rock’s thighs??)

Mosey toward Pizza Hut gazebo, then stop for THANG 2.

THANG 2:

3 rounds of DIDs – with “Da Dip” by Freak Nasty as our workout song (thanks to Crablegs for the suggestion and TK for the inspiration)

Dipsx20

Incline Merkinsx10

Decline Merkinsx5

With time running short, YHC wanted to make it up to Vector for not following through on a promise made to him last week.

Therefore, YHC played “I Ran (So Far Away)” by Flock of Seagulls and led group on a bonus mosey (while listening to the song) around lower parking lot and back to shovel flag.

Landed at shovelflag at 0612, leaving us with about 3 minutes of Mary:

MARY:

20xFreddie Mercury

15xAlabama Prom Date

20xLittle Baby Crunches

COT/TAP:

Prayers for Vector as his son started his first day of HS this week!

Prayers for TK as he continues to receive positive news from the doc and whose right knee is healing well!

Prayers for Crablegs as he and the M recently celebrated 3 years of matrimony!

BOM:

Quote from Phillipians 4:13: “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.”

May we continue to show our humility and vulnerability as we grow as leaders and pillars in the local community.

MOLESKINE:

Always a pleasure – today was no different in that regard. That said, today was a true blast, and YHC’s goal was show that we are all human and we all have our guilty pleasures. It is okay to admit these to one another. Let us continue to grow in our willingness to be vulnerable and in our willingness to trust in our fellow man!

BULLHORN:
9/14 – 5th Anny of F3 Nashville. Fun starts at 0600. Don’t miss it!

Deuces!

A Modified IronPax Appetizer

PAX: Silver Medal, Bagger Vance, Trapper Keeper, Porcelain, Moneyshot, Faulkner (Kotters), En Fuego (QIC)

Conditions: What you’d expect from an August 6th gloom

7 PAX showed up and showed out at III Pillars this morning, officially ready to conquer all that the 2019 IronPax challenge has coming our way.  0530 arrives, we exchange pleasantries and a disclaimer, and with that we grab a 20lb ruck plate and take our mosey to the base of Mt. Covenant, who YHC must say was also quick to show up and show out.  We set up shop for some WOR, ensuring an allowance of time for a slow count Scorpion Stretch routine, and then YHC explains the…

THANG:

YHC alerted the PAX that the month of Sept. will bring us the 2nd annual installment of the IronPax challenge, thanks to our Greenwood brethren.  YHC had some back issues going on during the inaugural event, but was able to complete the Week 1 challenge from the prior year.  Paying full respect to the unfriendliness of that workout approx. 365 days ago, YHC decided it was exactly what we needed to get ready for this year’s event – with the primary modification being the insertion of Mt. Covenant and a 20lb ruck plate.

With that, it’s simple:

    • Divide into two teams, a team of 4 and team of 3
    • Each PAX perform approx.
      • 50 Squats
      • 40 Big Boy Sit-ups
      • 30 Merkins
      • 20 Iron Mikes (each leg down would be one rep)
      • 10 Burpees
        • Team format so that collective team could pick up any extra reps if a PAX was falling behind on rep count.  Most obliged.
      • At completion of above exercises, the team then runs to top of Mt. Covenant (Hill 1) and then over and down to the bottom at the Harding Road entrance (Hill 2).  R&R, only Bernie Sanders up Hill 2 and back down to base of Hill 1.
      • PAX performed a total of 3 sets of exercises and hill climbs, with all PAX at least making it a portion up Hill 1 before 30 minute time was called.
      • As for 20lb ruck plate, Team 1 carried up Hill 1 and back down Hill 2, leaving at base of Hill 2 for Team 2 to grab and Bernie with up Hill 2 and deliver back down at base of Hill 1 for exchange back.  Not easy – tclaps to BV and Moneyshot for getting two rounds up Hill 1 with it
    • Time was called; mosey back to the friendly confines and huddle of for some COT followed by Coffeteria.

Bullhorn:

  • Prayers for Faulkner and his family as they get re-acclimated back in Nashville
  • Continued prayers for full healing and recovery for Boone’s
  • F3 Nashville 5th Anniversary at Sevier Park – put it on your calendar now, Saturday September 14th
  • GoRuck Star Course – 26.2 miler – November 2nd
  • Swaggy P games kick off next week; details imminent

Always a pleasure gentlemen; appreciate the opportunity

Some 3S2T Fun in the IIIP Sun

PAX: Silver Medal, Toothless, Pop-A-Lock, En Fuego (QIC)

Conditions: Muggy to Quite Muggy

4 PAX heeded the call to action to show up and claim the guarantee that their 3S2T would be tested and improved.  0530 arrives, we disclaim, grabbed a 30lb ruck plate and began our mosey to the track to set up WOR.  Some SSH, LBAC, WMH, GMs and Scorpion Stretches later, we got into the…

THANG:

Head to the end of the soccer field, partner up and begin with the Strength and Speed portion of the workout:

    • Perform 80 merkins, 60 squats and 40 WWIs as a team of 2 (roughly 40, 30 and 20 per PAX).  Pop-A-Lock goes into modification mode – believe he is still performing squats somewhere right now
    • Upon completion, sprint length of the field down, back and down again (180 yards total sprint effort)
    • R&R for total of 3 sets of the above

First circuit of Strength and Speed complete, we turn our attention to Stamina:

    • Coupon Bataan Death March
      • Last person drops and does 5 bodybuilders while the rest of the PAX Indian Run around the track (lead PAX carries the 30lb ruck plate);
      • After completing the bodybuilders, the bodybuilding PAX runs to catch up with the group, tapping the last PAX on the shoulder, who then stops to begin his 5 bodybuilders, while the former bodybuilding PAX runs to the front of the line and takes over coupon reigns.
      • Every one takes a turn running with coupon; complete just under .5 miles

We then head to the playground and begin Circuit #2 of Strength and Speed:

    • Perform 40 2-count flutters, 30 Steve Irwins and 20 swerkins
    • Upon completion, sprint length of the field down and back (120 yards total sprint effort)
    • R&R, knocking 10 reps off each in the interest of time

All in, it’s back to Stamina – we grab the ruck plate and Indian Run around track a couple laps and then head back to Shovel Flag. Time called.  Huddle up for COT, followed by 100% attendance for some 2nd F Coffeeteria

Bullhorn:

    • Prayers continue for Boone’s and his family; YHC discussed a couple ways F3 as a group can help him out these next few weeks per communication with Boone’s M.  Details coming…
    • Swaggy P on its way – get ready to HC for some inner AO friendlies
    • Upcoming dates
      • Yuck Ruck – Aug 17th
      • 5-year F3 Nashville birthday convergence – Sept 14th
      • 26.2 GoRuck Star Course – Nov 2nd

Excellent job to the 4 PAX – always a pleasure and am appreciative of the opportunity to lead

NMM:
Less running than YHC would have liked but the Indian Run was a nice twist to keep the PAX together. PAX kept in order for the entire am, another little mental test that proved no issue. The math at Fahrenheit Yoga was too much for YHC and thankfully, Aaaayyyy, from Austin crunched the numbers while the PAX did some burpees.
There seemed to be some disgruntled customers with the DJ mix this am, YHC takes full responsibility. The Spotify mix was not as hard and fast as expected, will be better next time or maybe it won’t…
Big turnout this week, first time in the teens in a bit.
Good to have PA in the mix and Black Lung even showed up early. Worlds are colliding Jerry.
Hambone was rocking the Mustache like a true champ. He may or may not have offered free mustache rides to a couple of bride tribes near P Brew.
Foxtrot coming off a bout of the butt flu acquitted himself nicely. It was obvious he was under the weather as his entry into the parking lot didn’t send PAX scrambling for their lives.
Porcelain is reppin 12th Man this month and has asked us all to Push the 12. PA and The Jeweler were 1&2 and shared their Thanksgiving for work rhythm and life rhythm.
BH:
Lots going on in the next few months. Head to Slack for more accurate info…this is what I remember 13 hours later:
This week we have Libeery with Bicentennial Man on Q.
On the 20th Porcelain is hosting a cookout.
Foxtrot is hosting a Lamaze class at his office on Tuesday at 1015.
Yuck Ruck in the works for August.

Keeping it Fresh

PAX: Umbrella, Toga, Boone’s Farm, Tiny Dancer, Flying Tomato, Egg Bowl (FNG), 8 Bit (guest star from Cherokee), Razorback, Penny Loafers, Olan Mills, Black Widow, Bedpan, Double Check, Life Champ, Offshore, Deck the Hollis

Conditions: 70 and Sunny

16 redwoods posted to get a little stronger and faster at the Racetrack.  Here’s how it went down:

Disclaimer then mosey around the main park loop and circle-up in the center for Warmarama= SSH, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Cotton Pickers, squat thrusts, scorpion stretch and inverted scorpion

Divide into two teams with Team 1 executing the ‘Cindy’ WOD for 10 minutes= 5 pull-ups, 10 merkins, 15 squats

Team 2 sprints half of the track EMOM

Flapjack then switch back to the same rotation for 5 minutes of Cindy and 5 minutes of sprints.  We had to cut this a bit short to work on some Mary.

Mosey to flag for Mary then COT.

Announcements:  0545 Ruck followed by breakfast at First Watch on Franklin Road (by Kroger) this Saturday!

NMM:  Tiny Dancer said he was excited to get some upper body work this morning, and YHC is not overly sure he provided exactly that.., but who doesn’t need more sprints, right?  Razorback did express some criticism over the Q’s lack of originality in going back to the same rotation of Cindy and Sprints, but YHC never claimed to be fast or creative.  At least he and Umbrella provided Gatorade and Coffee!  Special welcome to Egg Bowl who passed YHC on numerous sprints and 8 Bit who nearly caught Tiny Dancer on their last sprint.

Always a privilege to lead!

Stay Classy,

Toga

The Buffalo – 07.05.19 – “Wimbledon’t”

4 PAX shook off the firework haze to get served up a little bit of Wimbledon in some soupy conditions.

QIC: Princess Aurora

PAX: Brother-at-law, Magellan (FNG), Pocket Chicken (LIFO)

THE THANG:

Brief mosey around the community center and into “The Cage” for a COP in the service box.

  • SSH x 15
  • SnL Squats x 10
  • WMH x 10
  • LBAC F x 10
  • Randys x 10
  • Overhead Presses x 10
  • LBAC R x 10

Nice and warm, it was time to bust out the McEnroe, a combination of the Daisy Chain and R.O.S.E.  Beginning at the net, PAX lateral shuffle to the baseline, jog forward to center service line, shuffle back to the net, jog forward to doubles sideline, shuffle to baseline, cross over to the next court, and repeat pattern on court 2, then on the other side of the net.

With the PAX familiarized to the Daisy Chain route, PAX perform the R.O.S.E: 5 reps each of Reverse Crunches, Overhead Squats, SSH, and E2K (ea side). Follow that with one run of the Daisy Chain and plank for six to complete one McEnroe. Repeat two more rounds, adding 5 reps to each exercise each round.

Slowsy over to and down the big driveway to an acceptable point for a half-Dora: Merkins x 50, LBCs x 100, and Squats x 150 with a run up to the stone gates at the entrance.

Back over at the crowd of picnic tables, PAX set up for a round of DIDs at 15, 10, 5. RnR. Then over to the swingset for Underdogs x 15 x 2.

Quick step over to the lot for Mary consisting of Flutters x 10 and Alabama Prom Dates x 10.

COT/BOM

MOLESKINE:

This was definitely a post-4th hangover workout as evidenced by the low numbers and general groaning and moaning (maybe that was just me?) during a relatively moderate workout.

Welcome to FNG Magellan, a driving EH from the previous day’s convergence. Having heard about F3 through someone he was helping move, he sought us out at Bicentennial after he saw a bunch of (obviously fit) men ascending and descending Capitol Hill. An Uber driver, music enthusiast, and former HR dude with a few moves under his belt, this guy’s been all over the map like our boy, Magellan!

BULLHORN:

    • July 27 – Nightpath – Night ruck CSAUP at Percy Warner.
    • August 17 – Yuck Ruck – Social Ruck/Community Service. Trash pickup followed by beer and fellowship at a local watering hole.
    • September 14 – F3 Nashville 5th Anniversary at Sevier Park – where it all began. Special guests from F3 Nation will be in town, so you don’t want to miss it. Mark your calendars as the goal is 100+ PAX in attendance. Be a part of F3 Nashville history!
    • October 19 – TNCANRUCK 002 – Social Ruck/Community Service. Ruck across Nashville stopping at select breweries and bars to pick up canned good donations and deliver them to Second Harvest. Last year’s event ended with 700 lbs of donations. This year’s goal is 1,000 lbs.

PA out.
